Aflac Q3 2026 Net Earnings Drop to $303M From $1.6B a Year Ago
Aflac reported a sharp year-over-year decline in Q3 net earnings while adjusted earnings reached $1.2 billion. A fourth-quarter dividend was also declared.
Aflac Incorporated reported a steep drop in third-quarter 2026 net earnings, posting $303 million, or $0.61 per diluted share, compared with $1.6 billion, or $3.08 per diluted share, in the same period a year earlier, the Columbus, Georgia-based insurer disclosed Wednesday.
Despite the headline decline, the company's adjusted earnings came in at $1.2 billion for the quarter, suggesting the net earnings gap was driven in part by items excluded from the adjusted measure, such as investment gains or losses and other non-recurring factors. The divergence between net and adjusted figures is a common dynamic for large insurance companies whose results are sensitive to market fluctuations in their investment portfolios.

Aflac also declared a dividend for the fourth quarter, continuing its pattern of returning capital to shareholders. The supplemental insurance giant, known primarily for its products in the United States and Japan, has maintained a consistent dividend track record over many years.
The results were released ahead of the market open on the New York Stock Exchange, where Aflac trades under the ticker symbol AFL. Investors and analysts will likely scrutinize the gap between GAAP net earnings and adjusted earnings as they assess the underlying health of the insurer's core operations heading into the final quarter of the year.
