Howard Hughes Holdings to Enter S&P SmallCap 600 on Oct. 28
Howard Hughes Holdings will replace Arcosa in the S&P SmallCap 600 after CRH acquires Arcosa, triggering an index reshuffle effective Oct. 28.
Howard Hughes Holdings Inc. (NYSE: HHH) is set to join the S&P SmallCap 600, replacing Arcosa Inc. (NYSE: ACA) when markets open Wednesday, October 28, index operator S&P announced Thursday.
The change was triggered by an acquisition: S&P 500 component CRH plc (NYSE: CRH) completed a deal to purchase Arcosa, making the Texas-based infrastructure company ineligible for continued inclusion in the small-cap benchmark under standard index rules that exclude majority-owned subsidiaries of larger firms.

Index additions of this type frequently generate buying pressure on the incoming stock, as funds that track the benchmark are required to purchase shares of any newly added constituent before the effective date. Howard Hughes Holdings, a real estate development and master-planned communities company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, will benefit from that mechanical demand when trading resumes Wednesday morning.
The removal of Arcosa reflects a broader pattern in which merger-and-acquisition activity among S&P 500 companies cascades into reshuffle events across S&P's family of equity indexes. CRH, an Irish building-materials giant with a primary U.S. listing, has been an active acquirer since relocating its primary stock listing to New York in 2023.
